CHK Associate Professor Dr. Alberto L. Dimarucut presented the country report on Adapted Physical Education and Exercises in the Philippines at the International Symposium of the Asian Society for Adapted Physical Education and Exercise (ASAPE) in Hokkaido, Japan last August 2, 2024. With him in the panel discussion were representatives from 7 other countries.Dr. Dimarucut and Dr. Jocelyn A. Floresca of the Don Mariano Marcos State University, are members of the ASAPE Board of Directors, representing the Philippines. Dr. Bog Ja Jeoung of Gachon University Korea was elected as the new ASAPE President (2024-2026). Dr. Dimarucut sees this Symposium as a valuable opportunity to showcase the efforts and progress of ASAPE's local chapter in the Philippines, PhilSAPA, and to highlight the country's impact while building stronger connections within the field.

Dr. Dimarucut was joined by Prof. (ret.) Gilda L. Uy and six other members* of the Leisure Philippines/PhilSAPA, all of whom are graduates of the CHK’s MS HMS (Leisure Studies). To strengthen collaborative ties and exchange valuable insights, and as part of the delegation’s benchmarking activities, a study tour of Nippon Sport Science University
(Nittaidai) was conducted. A courtesy call with NSSU’s President, Dr. Ishii Takanori was made possible. NSSU already has a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with CHK on student internship and exchange programs.
The ASAPE International Symposium is a biennial event designed to raise awareness and promote engagement in adapted physical activity across the region. This event brought together experts, researchers, and practitioners from across Asia to share insights on adapted physical activity and exercise. The next Symposium will be held in 2026 in Shanghai. Its international counterpart, IFAPA, will hold its next conference in 2025 in Ireland.
