About

Alberto L. Dimarucut, DSD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Education of the College of Human Kinetics, University of the Philippines, Diliman. He is a Clinical Dance Movement Therapist of the Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australasia (DTAA) and a Recreational Therapist of the Australian Recreational Therapy Association (ARTA), which covers his advocacy work for the elderly, children, PWDs, and marginalized sectors. At present, he is the head coach of the UP Ballroom Formation Team (UPBFT). His research interests include applied dance, dancesport, disaster, disability, recreation, leisure and social development.

Teaching

As an Associate Professor, Alberto teaches recreation for special groups, adapted physical education, fundamental rhythms, internship, practicum and dancesport under the Department of Physical Education. He also teaches research methods in the Department of Sports Science undergraduate program. Additionally, he instructs leisure education and leisure for diverse population in the graduate program of Human Movement Science. Furthermore, he serves as a mentor for both undergraduate and graduate thesis advisees.

Research

Alberto L. Dimarucut has published his research work in international journals in the areas of applied dance, dancesport, disaster, recreation, leisure, and social development. He also presents his research findings at both national and international conferences. His research participation extends from communities with diverse populations and situations, indicating his dedication to generate knowledge and experience to contribute in the progress of humankind. Currently, he is a board of director of the Asian Society for Adapted Physical Education and Exercise (ASAPE), an international scientific organization of researchers, scholars, practitioners, and students dedicated to the conduct, implementation, and dissemination of research in the practice of adapted physical activity (APA).

Extension

Alberto is currently the director of the CHK Community Recreation Program which provides sport services and physical activities that includes fitness-related, dance and sports programs within and outside the UP community throughout the year. His knowledge and experience in the field of education, applied dance, and social development help him to further collaborate with other academic institutions in pursuing further learnings for the benefit of the community and vulnerable groups. In addition, his expertise in the field of leisure and recreation as shared to public and private organization provides an instrument in serving humanity.
