Lalaine Rosenda Juarez Pereña is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Education, College of Human Kinetics, University of the Philippines Diliman. She served as Chair of the Department from August 2022 to May 2025 and currently serves as the College Secretary of CHK. She is a member of both the College Academic Personnel Committee (CAPC) and the College Executive Board (CEB), contributing to the academic leadership and governance of the College. In addition, she serves as an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of the Philippines Cebu.

Her lifelong engagement with dance began at the Philippine High School for the Arts at the National Arts Center, where she completed her secondary education as a dance major. She further pursued her academic and professional training at the University of the Philippines Diliman, earning a Certificate in Dance, a Bachelor of Physical Education major in Dance, and a Master of Science in Physical Education major in Dance, all from the College of Human Kinetics, UPD.

Assoc. Prof. Pereña has been actively involved in the promotion and preservation of Philippine dance heritage for more than four decades. She was a member of the UP Filipiniana Dance Group from 1984 to 1991 and has remained an active member and trainer of the UP Filipiniana Alumni Dance Group since 1992, both under the direction and tutelage of Prof. Corazon G. Iñigo (a retired faculty from CHK). Through these organizations, she has performed extensively throughout the Philippines and has represented the country in numerous international folk dance festivals across Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe, promoting Philippine culture on the global stage.

Widely recognized for her outstanding achievements in athletic coaching, she served as Head Coach of the University of the Philippines Varsity Pep Squad from May 1998 to July 2022. Under her leadership, the team earned eight (8) UAAP Cheerdance Championships and ten (10) podium finishes, establishing one of the most successful coaching records in the history of the competition. She is likewise an accredited coach for cheerleading and cheerdance under the Cheerleading Federation of the Philippines and has served as Head Coach of the Philippine National Cheerleading Team, leading the country to podium finishes in the Cheerleading World Championships of the International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC) held in Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, and Germany.

In addition to her accomplishments in cheerleading, she has also distinguished herself in dancesport as one of the Head Coaches of the University of the Philippines Ballroom Formation Team, who guided the team to six (6) championship title victories in the UAAP Seasons 79, 82, and 86 Ballroom Formation Dance Competition.

Her expertise in dance has likewise gained international recognition. In 2025, she became a member of the World Artistic Dance Federation (WADF) and subsequently earned accreditation as both a Licensed WADF International Championship Adjudicator and a WADF Master Dance Teacher, affirming her professional standing in the global dance community.

Throughout her distinguished career, Assoc. Prof. Pereña has consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, coaching, and academic leadership. Her unwavering commitment to physical education, dance, and sports has significantly advanced the University's mission in instruction, cultural preservation, athletic development, and public service. Her contributions continue to inspire generations of students, athletes, educators, and artists, while bringing honor and distinction to the University of the Philippines and the nation.

As her expertise is focused on the dance field, Assoc. Prof. Pereña handles mostly dance courses offered by CHK. Furthermore, she serves as a mentor for student teachers taking their practicum in practice teaching and for both undergraduate and graduate thesis advisees.
